The training at Haxby Karate is split between the Early and Children’s Class (6:15pm –

7:15pm Monday and Thursday) and the Main Class (7:15pm – 9:15pm Monday and

The Early and Children’s Class is suitable for children aged 5 -8 years old and their parents. Training fees are only £12.50 per month and the training sessions are held on Monday and Thursday from 6.15pm to 7.15pm at Wigginton Recreation Hall. This is focused mainly on the basics of karate to give beginners the strong foundations that they will need for their karate journey. The class allows parents to train separately from their children, so they can receive the attention they require from the instructors to progress naturally. To maintain interest for the kids we provide some interesting twists to their training from time to time including activities such as obstacle courses to improve agility and balance, to games like dodge ball and tag to increase their reactions. By the time the children have reached 8 years old (or Yellow belt: 8th Kyu) they should be ready to progress to our main karate class.

The main class focuses at older children 8+ and more senior grades this helps to enhance and improve all the karate the beginners have gained in the Early and Children’s Class. It also allows us to develop our order beginners at a pace which suits their development. The first hour of the Main Class from 7.15pm - 8.15pm focuses on basics Kihon, Kata and Kumite for all grades. The last hour (8:15pm – 9:15pm) focuses mainly on more advanced techniques suitable for brown and black belts to help in their further karate journey, although we do have a number of lower grades who supplement their training by taking advantage of this opportunity to experiment with more advanced techniques. Training fees for this class are only £12.50 per month for junior members (up to 18 years old) and £18.00 per month doe adults.
